Natashia Deon

Periodically, I highlight someone who is checking things off of their own Bucket List, trying to live the dream.

One such person is Natashia Deon.
She's a screenwriter -- check;
A filmmaker -- check;
A Breadloaf Fellow, a PEN Emerging Voices Fellow, and is currently working on her debut novel, The Spinning Wheel -- check, check, check.

I had the pleasure of hearing Ms. Deon read from her work-in-progress the other night at the Hammer Museum in Westwood, Ca, and she was simply BRILLIANT! The Spinning Wheel is the story of three outcast women who, on the eve of the civil War, are fighting the battle of their lives.

She's also a practicing attorney, and the first generation of her family to live outside of East Tallassee, Alabama since American slavery. Kudos to her!

You can learn more about this dynamo at her website here.

Bravo! It's always great to learn of other former Alabamians' success. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to her book.
